当夜，迦勒底王伯沙撒被杀。玛代人大流士年六十二岁，取了迦勒底国。

伯沙撒王为他的一千大臣设摆盛筵，与这一千人对面饮酒。伯沙撒欢饮之间，吩咐人将他父尼布甲尼撒从耶路撒冷殿中所掠的金银器皿拿来，王与大臣、皇后、妃嫔好用这器皿饮酒。于是他们把耶路撒冷神殿库房中所掠的金器皿拿来，王和大臣、皇后、妃嫔就用这器皿饮酒。他们饮酒，赞美金、银、铜、铁、木、石所造的神。

耶和华的使者出去，在亚述营中杀了十八万五千人。清早有人起来一看，都是死尸了。

我心慌张，惊恐威吓我。我所羡慕的黄昏，变为我的战兢。他们摆设筵席，派人守望，又吃又喝。首领啊，你们起来，用油抹盾牌。

她怎样待人，也要怎样待她，按她所行的加倍地报应她；用她调酒的杯加倍地调给她喝。她怎样荣耀自己，怎样奢华，也当叫她照样痛苦悲哀，因她心里说：‘我坐了皇后的位，并不是寡妇，决不至于悲哀。’

你们像丛杂的荆棘，像喝醉了的人，又如枯干的碎秸全然烧灭。

地上的君王，素来与她行淫、一同奢华的，看见烧她的烟，就必为她哭泣哀号。

给人酒喝、又加上毒物、使他喝醉、好看见他下体的有祸了！你满受羞辱，不得荣耀；你也喝吧，显出是未受割礼的！耶和华右手的杯必传到你那里；你的荣耀就变为大大地羞辱。你向黎巴嫩行强暴与残害惊吓野兽的事必遮盖你；因你杀人流血，向国内的城并城中一切居民施行强暴。
