背道的民哪，你们为何因有山谷，就是水流的山谷夸张呢？为何倚靠财宝说：‘谁能来到我们这里呢？’

背逆之女歟、奚為誇爾流水之谷、爾恃財寶曰、誰克至我、

違逆之女、居於膏腴之谷、詡詡然以為已得貨財、無人犯我四境、然爾不可矜誇。

Why do you boast of your valleys, boast of your valleys so fruitful? Unfaithful Daughter Ammon, you trust in your riches and say,‘ Who will attack me?’

Why do you brag about your valleys? You brag that they produce so many crops. Ammon, you are an unfaithful country. You trust in your riches. You say,‘ Who will attack me?’

Why do you boast of your valleys, O faithless daughter, who trusted in her treasures, saying,‘ Who will come against me?’

You are proud of your fertile valleys, but they will soon be ruined. You trusted in your wealth, you rebellious daughter, and thought no one could ever harm you.

Why do you boast about your valleys, your flowing valley, you faithless daughter— you who trust in your treasures and say,“ Who can attack me?”

How you boast about the valleys! Your valley is flowing away, You backsliding daughter Who trusts in her treasures, saying,‘ Who can come against me?’

Why do you boast in the valleys, Your flowing valley, O backsliding daughter? Who trusted in her treasures, saying,‘ Who will come against me?’

Wherefore gloriest thou in the valleys, thy flowing valley, O backsliding daughter? that trusted in her treasures, saying, Who shall come unto me?

Why do you brag about your valleys, your flowing valley, you faithless daughter? You who trust in your treasures and boast,“ Who can attack me?”

Why do you brag about your great power? Your power is ebbing away, you rebellious people of Ammon, who trust in your riches and say,‘ Who would dare to attack us?’

Command those who are rich in this present world not to be arrogant nor to put their hope in wealth, which is so uncertain, but to put their hope in God, who richly provides us with everything for our enjoyment. (niv)

I am against you, Jerusalem, you who live above this valley on the rocky plateau, declares the Lord— you who say,“ Who can come against us? Who can enter our refuge?” (niv)

This is what the Lord says:“ Let not the wise boast of their wisdom or the strong boast of their strength or the rich boast of their riches, (niv)

those who trust in their wealth and boast of their great riches? (niv)

“ Return, faithless people,” declares the Lord,“ for I am your husband. I will choose you— one from a town and two from a clan— and bring you to Zion. (niv)

Do not trust in extortion or put vain hope in stolen goods; though your riches increase, do not set your heart on them. (niv)

Since you trust in your deeds and riches, you too will be taken captive, and Chemosh will go into exile, together with his priests and officials. (niv)

“ Here now is the man who did not make God his stronghold but trusted in his great wealth and grew strong by destroying others!” (niv)

The terror you inspire and the pride of your heart have deceived you, you who live in the clefts of the rocks, who occupy the heights of the hill. Though you build your nest as high as the eagle’s, from there I will bring you down,” declares the Lord. (niv)

You said,‘ I am forever— the eternal queen!’ But you did not consider these things or reflect on what might happen.“ Now then, listen, you lover of pleasure, lounging in your security and saying to yourself,‘ I am, and there is none besides me. But they did not listen or pay attention; instead, they followed the stubborn inclinations of their evil hearts. They went backward and not forward. (niv)

The wealth of the rich is their fortified city, but poverty is the ruin of the poor. (niv)

Though you soar like the eagle and make your nest among the stars, from there I will bring you down,” declares the Lord.“ If thieves came to you, if robbers in the night— oh, what a disaster awaits you!— would they not steal only as much as they wanted? If grape pickers came to you, would they not leave a few grapes? (niv)

Woe to that wreath, the pride of Ephraim’s drunkards, to the fading flower, his glorious beauty, set on the head of a fertile valley— to that city, the pride of those laid low by wine!See, the Lord has one who is powerful and strong. Like a hailstorm and a destructive wind, like a driving rain and a flooding downpour, he will throw it forcefully to the ground.That wreath, the pride of Ephraim’s drunkards, will be trampled underfoot.That fading flower, his glorious beauty, set on the head of a fertile valley, will be like figs ripe before harvest— as soon as people see them and take them in hand, they swallow them. The Israelites are stubborn, like a stubborn heifer. How then can the Lord pasture them like lambs in a meadow? (niv)
