“人子啊，葡萄树比一切其他的树，就是树林里众树木的树枝，有什么长处呢？可以从其中取木料来做工吗？人可以拿来做钉子，挂东西在上面吗？看哪，它已经抛在火中当柴烧，火既烧了两头，中间也烧焦了，它还有什么用处呢？看哪，它完整的时候尚且不能拿来做工，何况被火烧焦了，还能拿来做工吗？

“你们是地上的盐。盐若失了味，怎能叫它再咸呢？它不再有用，只好被丢在外面，任人践踏。

“耶和华—以色列的神如此说：‘被掳去的犹大人，就是我所打发离开这地到迦勒底人之地去的，我必看顾他们如这好的无花果，使他们得福乐。我要眷顾他们，使他们得福乐，领他们归回这地。我也要建立他们，必不拆毁；栽植他们，必不拔出。我要赐给他们认识我的心，认识我是耶和华。他们要作我的子民，我要作他们的神，他们要一心归向我。’”耶和华如此说：“我必将犹大王西底家和他的众领袖，以及留在这地耶路撒冷剩余的人，并住在埃及地的犹大人都交出来，好像那极坏、坏得不能吃的无花果。我必使他们在地上万国中成为恐惧，成为灾祸，在我赶逐他们到的各处成为凌辱、笑柄、讥笑、诅咒的对象。我必使刀剑、饥荒、瘟疫临到他们，直到他们从我所赐给他们和他们祖先之地灭绝。”

万军之耶和华如此说：‘看哪，我必使刀剑、饥荒、瘟疫临到他们，使他们像极坏的无花果，坏得不能吃。
