Yet he too is wise and can bring disaster; he does not take back his words. He will rise up against that wicked nation, against those who help evildoers.

He too is wise. He can bring horrible trouble. He does what he says he’ll do. He’ll rise up against that evil nation. He’ll fight against those who help them.

And yet he is wise and brings disaster; he does not call back his words, but will arise against the house of the evildoers and against the helpers of those who work iniquity.

In his wisdom, the Lord will send great disaster; he will not change his mind. He will rise against the wicked and against their helpers.

For since, in God’s wisdom, the world did not know God through wisdom, God was pleased to save those who believe through the foolishness of what is preached.For the Jews ask for signs and the Greeks seek wisdom,but we preach Christ crucified, a stumbling block to the Jews and foolishness to the Gentiles.Yet to those who are called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ is the power of God and the wisdom of God,because God’s foolishness is wiser than human wisdom, and God’s weakness is stronger than human strength.Brothers and sisters, consider your calling: Not many were wise from a human perspective, not many powerful, not many of noble birth.Instead, God has chosen what is foolish in the world to shame the wise, and God has chosen what is weak in the world to shame the strong.God has chosen what is insignificant and despised in the world— what is viewed as nothing— to bring to nothing what is viewed as something,so that no one may boast in his presence.

Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will never pass away.

If a ram’s horn is blown in a city, aren’t people afraid? If a disaster occurs in a city, hasn’t the LORD done it?

Therefore, wait for me— this is the LORD’s declaration— until the day I rise up for plunder. For my decision is to gather nations, to assemble kingdoms, in order to pour out my indignation on them, all my burning anger; for the whole earth will be consumed by the fire of my jealousy.

He made the earth by his power, established the world by his wisdom, and spread out the heavens by his understanding.

“‘ Then all the inhabitants of Egypt will know that I am the LORD, for they have been a staff made of reed to the house of Israel.

But didn’t my words and my statutes that I commanded my servants the prophets overtake your ancestors?’” So the people repented and said,“ As the LORD of Armies decided to deal with us for our ways and our deeds, so he has dealt with us.”

The LORD of Armies has directly revealed to me:“ This iniquity will not be wiped out for you people as long as you live.” The Lord GOD of Armies has spoken.

For a fool speaks foolishness and his mind plots iniquity. He lives in a godless way and speaks falsely about the LORD. He leaves the hungry empty and deprives the thirsty of drink.

so the king of Assyria will lead the captives of Egypt and the exiles of Cush, young and old alike, stripped and barefoot, with bared buttocks— to Egypt’s shame.Those who made Cush their hope and Egypt their boast will be dismayed and ashamed.And the inhabitants of this coastland will say on that day,‘ Look, this is what has happened to those we relied on and fled to for help to rescue us from the king of Assyria! Now, how will we escape?’”

Then Jeremiah took another scroll and gave it to Baruch son of Neriah, the scribe, and he wrote on it at Jeremiah’s dictation all the words of the scroll that Jehoiakim, Judah’s king, had burned in the fire. And many other words like them were added.

“ Because of the devastation of the needy and the groaning of the poor, I will now rise up,” says the LORD.“ I will provide safety for the one who longs for it.”The words of the LORD are pure words, like silver refined in an earthen furnace, purified seven times.

The Lord awoke as if from sleep, like a warrior from the effects of wine.He beat back his foes; he gave them lasting disgrace.

Since every good thing the LORD your God promised you has come about, so he will bring on you every bad thing until he has annihilated you from this good land the LORD your God has given you.

But Pharaoh’s protection will become your shame, and refuge in Egypt’s shadow your humiliation.

For the LORD will rise up as he did at Mount Perazim. He will rise in wrath, as at the Valley of Gibeon, to do his work, his unexpected work, and to perform his task, his unfamiliar task.

This will be a sign to you’— this is the LORD’s declaration—‘ that I will punish you in this place, so you may know that my words of disaster concerning you will certainly come to pass.This is what the LORD says: I am about to hand over Pharaoh Hophra, Egypt’s king, to his enemies, to those who intend to take his life, just as I handed over Judah’s King Zedekiah to Babylon’s King Nebuchadnezzar, who was his enemy, the one who intended to take his life.’”

Whenever the ark set out, Moses would say: Arise, LORD! Let your enemies be scattered, and those who hate you flee from your presence.

Who should not fear you, King of the nations? It is what you deserve. For among all the wise people of the nations and among all their kingdoms, there is no one like you.

God arises. His enemies scatter, and those who hate him flee from his presence.As smoke is blown away, so you blow them away. As wax melts before the fire, so the wicked are destroyed before God.

this iniquity of yours will be like a crumbling gap, a bulge in a high wall whose collapse will come in an instant— suddenly!Its collapse will be like the shattering of a potter’s jar, crushed to pieces, so that not even a fragment of pottery will be found among its shattered remains— no fragment large enough to take fire from a hearth or scoop water from a cistern.”

For I planned the day of vengeance, and the year of my redemption came.I looked, but there was no one to help, and I was amazed that no one assisted; so my arm accomplished victory for me, and my wrath assisted me.

Do not boast so proudly, or let arrogant words come out of your mouth, for the LORD is a God of knowledge, and actions are weighed by him.

Egyptians are men, not God; their horses are flesh, not spirit. When the LORD raises his hand to strike, the helper will stumble and the one who is helped will fall; both will perish together.

He traps the wise in their craftiness so that the plans of the deceptive are quickly brought to an end.
