But the king of Assyria discovered that Hoshea was a traitor, for he had sent envoys to So king of Egypt, and he no longer paid tribute to the king of Assyria, as he had done year by year. Therefore Shalmaneser seized him and put him in prison.

But the king of Assyria found out that Hoshea had turned against him. Hoshea had sent messengers to So, the king of Egypt. Hoshea didn’t send gifts to the king of Assyria anymore. He had been sending them every year. So Shalmaneser grabbed him and put him in prison.

But the king of Assyria found treachery in Hoshea, for he had sent messengers to So, king of Egypt, and offered no tribute to the king of Assyria, as he had done year by year. Therefore the king of Assyria shut him up and bound him in prison.

But Hoshea stopped paying the annual tribute and conspired against the king of Assyria by asking King So of Egypt to help him shake free of Assyria’s power. When the king of Assyria discovered this treachery, he seized Hoshea and put him in prison.

又從以色列王室後裔中選取一人，與他立約，令他發誓，又擄走國中有勢力的人，使王國衰弱，不再強盛，只能靠守盟約方得生存。他卻背叛巴比倫王，差派使者前往埃及，要求埃及人給他馬匹和許多人。他豈能亨通呢？這樣做的人豈能逃脫呢？他背了約豈能逃脫呢？主耶和華說：我指着我的永生起誓，他定要死在巴比倫，就是巴比倫王所在之處；因為巴比倫王立他為王，他竟輕看向王所起的誓，背棄王與他所立的約。當敵人建土堆，築堡壘，要殲滅許多人時，法老雖有強大軍隊和大批人馬，在戰場上還是不能幫助他。他輕看誓言，背棄盟約，看哪，雖已投降，卻又做這一切的事，他必不能逃脫。所以主耶和華如此說：我指着我的永生起誓，他既輕看我的誓言，背棄我的約，我必使這罪歸到他頭上。

猶大王希西家派人到拉吉，亞述王那裏，說：「我錯了，求你撤退離開我；凡你罰我的，我必承當。」於是亞述王罰猶大王希西家三百他連得銀子，三十他連得金子。希西家把耶和華殿裏和王宮府庫裏所有的銀子都給了他。

為要報復列國，懲罰萬民。要用鏈子捆他們的君王，用鐵鐐鎖他們的貴族，

約雅敬的日子，巴比倫王尼布甲尼撒上來；約雅敬服事他三年，以後又背叛他。

他們在西底家眼前殺了他的兒女，挖了西底家的眼睛，用銅鏈鎖着他，帶到巴比倫去。

禍哉！那些下埃及求幫助的，他們仰賴馬匹，倚靠甚多的戰車，並倚靠強壯的騎兵，卻不仰望以色列的聖者，也不求問耶和華。其實，耶和華有智慧，他降災禍，並不撤回自己的話，卻要興起攻擊作惡之家，攻擊那幫助人作惡的。埃及人不過是人，並非神，他們的馬不過是血肉，並不是靈。耶和華一伸手，那幫助人的必絆跌，受幫助的也必跌倒，都一同滅亡。

希西家說：耶和華－我們的神必救我們脫離亞述王的手，這不是誘惑你們，使你們受飢渴而死嗎？
