耶利米對他們說：「你們當對西底家這樣說：『耶和華－以色列的神如此說：看哪，我要使你們手中的兵器，就是你們與城外圍困你們的巴比倫王和迦勒底人打仗所用的兵器轉回來，把它們聚集在這城中。我要在怒氣、憤怒和大惱怒中，用伸出來的手和大能的膀臂，親自攻擊你們；又要擊打這城的居民，他們連人帶牲畜都必遭遇大瘟疫而死亡。以後，我要將猶大王西底家和他的臣僕百姓，就是在城內，從瘟疫、刀劍、饑荒中倖存的人，都交在巴比倫王尼布甲尼撒手中，交在仇敵和尋索其命的人手中。巴比倫王必用刀擊殺他們，不顧惜，不同情，不憐憫。這是耶和華說的。』

「耶和華－以色列的神如此說：你們要對派你們來求問我的猶大王如此說：『看哪，那出來幫助你們的法老軍隊必回埃及本國去。迦勒底人必再來攻打這城，並要攻下，用火焚燒。耶和華如此說：你們不要自欺說「迦勒底人必定離開我們」，因為他們必不離開。你們即使擊敗與你們爭戰的迦勒底全軍，他們當中剩下受傷的人也必各自從帳棚裏起來，用火焚燒這城。』」

她對他們說：「耶和華－以色列的神如此說：『你們可以回覆那派你們來見我的人說，耶和華如此說：看哪，我必照着猶大王所讀那書上的一切話，降禍於這地方和其上的居民。因為他們離棄我，向別神燒香，用他們手所做的一切惹我發怒，所以我的憤怒必向這地方發作，總不止息。』然而，派你們來求問耶和華的猶大王，你們要這樣回覆他：『耶和華－以色列的神如此說：至於你所聽見的話，就是聽見我指着這地方和其上的居民說，要使這地方變為荒蕪、百姓受詛咒的話，你的心就軟化，在耶和華面前謙卑下來，撕裂衣服，向我哭泣，因此我應允你。這是耶和華說的。因此，看哪，我必使你歸到你祖先那裏，平安地進入墳墓；我要降於這地方的一切災禍，你不會親眼看見。』」他們就去把這話回覆王。
