我转而回顾日光之下，快跑的未必能赢，强壮的未必战胜，智慧的未必得粮食，聪明的未必得财富，有学问的未必得人喜悦，全在乎各人遇上的时候和机会。

“你们当刚强壮胆，不要因亚述王和跟随他的大军恐惧惊慌，因为与我们同在的，比与他们同在的更大。与他们同在的是血肉之臂，但与我们同在的是耶和华—我们的神，他必帮助我们，为我们争战。”百姓因犹大王希西家的话就得到鼓励。

扫罗在基比亚的郊外，坐在米矶仑的石榴树下，跟随他的百姓约有六百人。

百姓手里拿着食物和角；其余的以色列人，基甸都打发他们各自回到自己的帐棚，只留下这三百人。米甸营在他下边的平原上。

若非他们的磐石卖了他们，若非耶和华交出他们，一人岂能追赶千人，二人焉能使万人逃跑呢？

“你们要走遍营中，吩咐百姓说：‘当预备食物，因为三日之内你们要过这约旦河，进去得耶和华—你们神赐给你们为业之地。’”
