Psalm 41
Victory in spite of Betrayal
For the choir director. A psalm of David.
1Happy is one who is considerate of the poor;
2The Lord will keep him and preserve him;
You will not give him over to the desire of his enemies.41:2 Ps 27:12
3The Lord will sustain him on his sickbed;
you will heal him on the bed where he lies.41:3 Jr 17:14
4I said, “Lord, be gracious to me;
5My enemies speak maliciously about me:
“When will he die and be forgotten?” 41:5 Ps 38:12
6When one of them comes to visit, he speaks deceitfully;
he stores up evil in his heart;
he goes out and talks.41:6 Ps 12:2; 62:4; Pr 26:24–26
7All who hate me whisper together about me;
they plan to harm me.41:7 Ps 56:5
8“Something awful has overwhelmed him,41:8 Lit “A thing of worthlessness has been poured into him
and he won’t rise again from where he lies!” 41:8 Ps 71:10–11
9Even my friend41:9 Lit Even a man of my peace in whom I trusted,
one who ate my bread,
has raised his heel against me.41:9 Jb 19:19; Ps 55:12–13; Jn 13:18
10But you, Lord, be gracious to me and raise me up;
then I will repay them.41:10 Ps 9:13
my enemy does not shout in triumph over me.41:11 Ps 25:2
and set me in your presence forever.41:12 Ps 21:6
13Blessed be the Lord God of Israel,
from everlasting to everlasting.
