Psalm 33

Praise to the Creator

1Rejoice in the Lord, you righteous ones;

praise from the upright is beautiful.33:1 Ps 32:11; 147:1; Php 4:4

2Praise the Lord with the lyre;

make music to him with a ten-stringed harp.33:2 Ps 92:3; 144:9

3Sing a new song to him;33:3 Ps 40:3; 96:1; Is 42:10

play skillfully on the strings, with a joyful shout.33:3 Ps 150:4

4For the word of the Lord is right,

and all his work is trustworthy.33:4 Ps 19:8

5He loves righteousness and justice;33:5 Ps 11:7; 37:28

the earth is full of the Lord’s unfailing love.33:5 Ps 119:64

8Let the whole earth fear the Lord;

9For he spoke, and it came into being;

10The Lord frustrates the counsel of the nations;

11The counsel of the Lord stands forever,

12Happy is the nation whose God is the Lord —

13The Lord looks down from heaven;

14He gazes on all the inhabitants of the earth

from his dwelling place.33:14 Ps 102:19

15He forms the hearts of them all;

he considers all their works.33:15 Jb 34:21

16A king is not saved by a large army;

a warrior will not be rescued by great strength.33:16 Ps 44:6; 60:11

17The horse is a false hope for safety;

it provides no escape by its great power.33:17 Ps 20:7; 147:10; Hs 1:7

18But look, the Lord keeps his eye on those who fear him —

those who depend on his faithful love33:18 Jb 36:7; Ps 34:15; 1Pt 3:12

19to rescue them from death

and to keep them alive in famine.33:19 Jb 5:20; Ps 37:19; 56:13

20We wait for the Lord;33:20 Ps 130:6; Is 8:17

22May your faithful love rest on us, Lord,
