Psalm 103

The Forgiving God

Of David.

1My soul, bless the Lord,

and all that is within me, bless his holy name.103:1 Ps 30:4; 97:12; 104:1

2My soul, bless the Lord,

3He forgives all your iniquity;103:3 Is 43:25

he heals all your diseases.103:3 Jr 30:17

he crowns you with faithful love and compassion.103:4 Ps 5:12

your youth is renewed like the eagle.103:5 Is 40:31

6The Lord executes acts of righteousness

and justice for all the oppressed.103:6 Ps 147:7

7He revealed his ways to Moses,103:7 Ex 33:13

his deeds to the people of Israel.103:7 Ps 78:11; 99:7

8The Lord is compassionate and gracious,

slow to anger and abounding in faithful love.103:8 Ex 34:6; Nm 14:18; Neh 9:17

9He will not always accuse us

or be angry forever.103:9 Is 57:16; Jr 3:12; Mc 7:19

10He has not dealt with us as our sins deserve

or repaid us according to our iniquities.103:10 Ezr 9:13; Lm 3:22

11For as high as the heavens are above the earth,

so great is his faithful love

toward those who fear him.103:11 Ps 36:5; 57:10

12As far as the east is from the west,

so far has he removed

our transgressions from us.103:12 Is 43:25; Mc 7:19

13As a father has compassion on his children,

so the Lord has compassion on those who fear him.103:13 Mal 3:17

14For he knows what we are made of,

remembering that we are dust.103:14 Gn 2:7; 3:19; Ps 78:39

15As for man, his days are like grass —

he blooms like a flower of the field;103:15 Jb 14:2; 1Pt 1:24

16when the wind passes over it, it vanishes,

and its place is no longer known.103:16 Lit place no longer knows it103:15–16 Is 40:6–7

17But from eternity to eternity

the Lord’s faithful love is toward those who fear him,

and his righteousness toward the grandchildren103:17 Ex 20:6; Dt 5:10; Ps 25:6

18of those who keep his covenant,

who remember to observe his precepts.103:18 Dt 7:9; Ps 25:10

19The Lord has established his throne in heaven,

and his kingdom rules over all.103:19 Ps 11:4; 47:2

20Bless the Lord,

all his angels of great strength,

who do his word,

obedient to his command.103:20 Ps 29:1; 148:2

21Bless the Lord, all his armies,

his servants who do his will.103:21 1Kg 22:19; Neh 9:6

22Bless the Lord, all his works

in all the places where he rules.103:22 Ps 145:10
